1.   Non Tax revenue sources of Municipal ( Many people may not expect this question but answered well)
2.   The grounds for the proclamation of Financial emergency ( India never used article 360 so aspirants gave less attention but they can manage but answer to the point is little difficult many explained what is article 360 not the grounds )
3.   Meaning of Scheduled Areas ( UPSC Aspirants have done this question well , TNPSC Aspirants struggles because we study what is 5th Schedule only )
4.   Legislation to the Supplement the Constitution ( it’s a  difficult Question can answer those who understand the some basics of the passing of bills. The Answer is the constitution says in some cases can parliament can pass in certain areas ,example Article 11 gave powers to the Parliament of India to regulate the right of citizenship by law
5.   Writs associated with Constitutional remedies
6.   About Article 1 of the Constitution
7.   Constitutional Provision to remove Supreme court Judge for “proven Misbehavior” – ( it’s about removal procedure of Supreme court Judge )
8.   When Fundamentals Duties were incorporated?  
9.   Types of Appeals in Supreme Court ( Those who Followed Disproportionate Case or Perarivalan Case can answer it easily , in LakshmiKandh book also available but many Confused with Writes )

2.   Functions of Official Language Commission ( many answered well)
3.   Qualification and Disqualifications of Parliamentary Members ( no need to Explain the nature of the question)
4. Sources of Municipal Income ( many may expect this in Administration but came in polity ) ( Many people Managed but not answered exactly )
5.   Financial Relations between Union and States ( everyone Answered because everyone expected , every institute carried this questions in their test series )
6.   Functions of Central Social Welfare board (Unexpectedly appeared in Polity Part )

2.   Elaborate the Citizenship Act 1955 ( repeated Question)

General Observation

  • The Questioner not yet changed since Ancient Time of TNPSC Expect 3 marks Questions
  • Many in 8 & 15 mark Question are repeated ones ( Unitary Feature , Citizenship act , Financial Relation between union and states )
  • Those who practiced previous year question paper excelled in polity part expect 3 mark question
  • This time they left questions on Fundamental rights, India’s Foreign policy, Elections.
  • Through 3 mark Questions Questioner tried to play with aspirants in Time Management

1.   Need for Conservation of Nature ( analytical type of Question but many people can manage without read anything by their own knowledge but some Valid points couldn’t written )

General Observation

  • All Questions can be answered by Aspirants but many people not giving importance to Geography 
  • Mostly Direct Questions expect few ( need for Conservation of Nature , Norwest or like )
  • Commission Expect mains Aspirants must refer some books other than School book
  • Catchy Phrases mindset yet to be changed still they are asking, Norwestor , Mango showers . In every year it’s appeared in Mains Question paper.
Unit II of this paper need not be analyzed because it’s common to all and there is no changes but this sections favors only to the aspirant who chosen English. For a Tamil student needs to prepare lot but English student can be write without any special preparation

 

Paper – II Unit – I Tamilnadu Administration

Tamilnadu Administration   Easy Medium Tough
1.   Annal Gandhi memorial award ( fall from the sky never appeared in any news. The award was instituted by TN govt in 2012 for Adi Dravider Students who secure district first in +2)
2.   Discretionary powers of the governor ( yes many watched when Former T.N Governor Vidya sagar rao refused to form government by sasikala even have majority support of legislative members so everyone answered )       –
3.   Composition of UPSC ( no need to explain )
4.   Money Bill ( it’s easy question many confused why this question appeared in Administration because it comes under union and state financial administration part )
5.   Functions of district social welfare officer( those who in govt service aware of the social welfare board anyway its repeated question )
6.   Minimum Needs Programm ( its implemented in fifth five year plan period to provide basic amenities to the people anyhow many people managed with their economy preparation. This question falls under welfare program)
7.   Six Indicators of good governance ( it’s an unexpected questions but can be manageable those who studied administration part effectively )
8.   Financial power of Parliament ( nothing its simply represent the budget of the government )

 

Paper – II Unit – I Tamilnadu Administration

Tamilnadu Administration   Easy Medium Tough
1.   Industrial promotion of Agencies of Tamilnadu (this is the another form of question of SIPCOT, TIDCO like asked in previous year examination)
2.   Functions of state secretariat ( repeated one )
3.   State Resident Data Hub ( its associated with Current issues because its relevant with  AADHAAR its appeared in Hindu September , 9,2017 )
4.   Pre requisites of effective planning ( common question many answered it )
5.   Five modes of Acquiring the citizenship as per Indian Citizenship act 1955 ( it’s a repeated question but 2013 its appeared in polity this time in admin that’s the different

 

Paper – II Unit – III Tamilnadu Administration

Tamilnadu Administration   Easy Medium Tough
1.   Evaluate the role of Prime minister office ( Good questions many not touched the administration part because aspirants approach union government in polity manner they didn’t understand polity is different from administration )
2.   E- Governance Citizen- IT Interface (those who read some reference book or read paper can answer like e-district – online application of license
3.   Budget (many time asked in Economic but this time they asked in Administration )

 

General Observation

  • Many aspirants expected Administration part is going to be very tough after wrote last group II mains because that question was very hard . but the question setter not yet changed and needs to be changed
  • In this particular unit those who have written mains earlier could be scored well
  • New aspirants not prepared as like senior prepared because new aspirants focused only Administration and Schemes not portions according to syllabus
  • And there are no proper sources and books for this unit. And this unit combination of various subjects, industrial map is part of geography, budget and financial administration from public administration , schemes have to be studied in various Govt document and policies
  • Finally administration is the reflection of old question paper.

Final observation

  • There is no change in the paper as expected by the aspirants after writing group II mains.
  • Many Serious aspirants can complete the paper even those who prepared minimum level with previous year question paper because most of the questions are the replica (except) of old questions from 2008 Mains.
  • Those who completed paper with valid points can be able to score around 200 marks

Dear TNPSC GROUP I Mains aspirants the main was over. I have given the analysis of the 2017 group I Mains Question Paper with comparing past mains paper. The purpose of the analysis may be helpful to those who preparing group I.

MAINS TOPIC WISE ANALYSIS OUT OF 121 MARKS IN PERCENTAGE IN HISTORY

PAPER – I

UNIT – I – 3 MARKS

UNIT – 1 HISTORY AND MODERN INDIA EASY MEADIUM TOUGH
1.    Chennai name change

All people can attent

2.    Avinashi lingam chettiyar –    ( those who have genral reading can answer)
3.    Poona pact ( all people can answer)
4.    Carnatic music ( upsc people answer it easily )
5.    Food crisis faced by lal bahadur sasthri ( some people have answered jai chavan jai kisan but its not correct , TNPSC evaluator expect to the point answer)
6.    Aligarh movement in upliftment of Muslim ( many people have answered to the point )    
7.    Jhalliyan walaback  ( no comments need for this questions)
8.    Swadeshi program of Gandhi
9.    Nehru acts on upliftment of women ( it’s a little bit analytical questions those who read contemporary India they will answer otherwise it’s a time consuming one)
10. Ishwara chandra vidya sagar ( not former tn governer vidya sagar rao)

12. First congress meeting  ( repeated & related to past mains questions) ( many answered about the first congress session )

 

UNIT – I HISTORY, 8 MARKS

1.     Justice  party ( expected one 100th year of formation of justice party)
2.    Salient features of panchyat raj act ( many expected in polity but came in modern history)
3.    1953 andhra creation  ( repeated question)
4.    E.v.r periyar formation of dravidanadu  ( its an unexpected and not cover in any books those who have good reading habbit can answer ( its related with current affairs few months back united south india and dravida nadu as the tag is trending in twitter by keralities )
5.    Pottukattuthal ( many people confused , devadasi or pottukattuhal is same or different but both are same many people didn’t answer to the point )
6.    Repressive feudalism  done away with madras state ( it’s nothing but they asked about jamindari removal and land reform and tenancy reform in tamilnadu but many feel its difficult)

 

UNIT – I

MODERN HISTORY – 15 MARKS

1.    Ayodhidasa pandiyar role on dalit upliftment (  its very difficult many people may relate with 10th tamil standard but its not sufficient , again it’s a related with current affairs 100 year of Dravidian movement and its news in frequently )
2.    Various socio religious movement in the upliftment of  Muslim community  ( this question looks like easy but those who prepared well can manage the answer)
3.    Gandhi as socio economic leader ( this question also needs lot of preparation otherwise can manage only)

 

General Observation

  • A Few Questions are reflection from 2016 mains Question paper, 1. State Reorganization 2. E.V. Periyar
  • Comparing to Last mains the current paper Tamilnadu related area accounts 45 marks its 40 % increase in total history mark of 121.
  • Comparing with Past question paper the 2017 paper is somewhat dynamic Serious Aspirants realize that.
  • Those who completed the syllabus can write Maximum 100 – 105 marks only.
  • The paper tells us the candidate should prepare the all topics mentioned in the syllabus not focusing some areas only.
  • Some New Aspirants may thing the senior players has done well this part but the assumption is not completely correct. Most of the senior players never gave importance to Tamilnadu related area.
UNIT – II OF THE PAPER ONE IS NORMAL NO CHANGES IN THIS UNIT. THOSE WHO SOUND IN MATHS THEY ANSWERED ALL QUESTIONS IN THREE SECTIONS. MATHS PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN DECIDING THEIR NAME IN INTERVIEW AND RANK LIST BECAUSE THIS PORTION CAN GIVE FULL MARK FOR ALL ANSWERED QUESTION

1.    How does  detergent soap  helps in cleaning cloths  ( directly repeated questions from 2013 mains)
2.    Light year and SI units ( easy )
3.    Factors affects the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor ( generally feel it’s difficult because people does not concentrate on chemistry especially electrochemistry )

4.    Herbicides ( all people can answer )
5.    Sodium chloride ( its look like difficult question but those who know ph value can answer easily but it may consume time )
6.    Cell theory
7.    Gene cloning tool ( generally we  what is gene cloning , don’t know the tools )
8.    Bhore effect  ( people can answer )
9.    Sex linked genes ( people can manage )
10. Codon and  anti codons (can answer who read school book )
11. Drug abuse ( repeated question )
12. Acid rain
13. ASCII ( asked in 2015 prelims )

 

UNIT – III SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, 8 MARKS

1.    Questions from semi conductor ( those who studied about semi conductor can manage )
2.    Preparation of carborandum ( degree level , difficult to answer , many left )
3.    Respiratory related (those who read 12th zoology can otherwise no)
4.    Eukaryotic , prokaryotic difference ( many have answered everyone studied )
5.    Causes of drug abuse
6.    Damage caused by acid rainfall ( many have answered based on their presence of mind ,because people know only causes and what is acid rainfall )
7.    Binary calculation ( many people may answered but those who stick with understanding the question its little bit difficult

UNIT – III SCIENE AND TECHNOLOGY

15 MARKS QUESTIONS

1.    Three fundamental forces in nature ( those who studied science with understanding can answer , mug up parties confused with understanding of the questions and it’s a unexpected and can it can be answered using basic commonsense
2. Commercial application of galvanic cells  ( people can manage )
3., importance of plants in human life (it can be answered using basic commonsense but many people struggle with anyhow many managed
4, role of environment in human health  ( all people can answer )

GENERAL OBSERVATION

  • This science technology paper is entirely different from the past papers , most of the questions checked our presence of mind , normally they will ask directly answer like questions but this time different
  • Absence of science and technology especially recent trends and technologies
  • Generally most of the questions formed directly from the syllabus itself but this time they asked from diversion of the topic
  • Many of the candidates feared science and technology before exams but tnpsc asked simple questions to answer them it’s difficult
  • most candidates managed to answer all questions
  • The paper tells us the candidates are expected to prepare science and technology with understanding of the fact and concepts not question and answer type and candidates must know the diversion of the topics in-depth.
  • This area common for both newer and senior players.
  • Samacheer book is not enough to answer the questions, the candidate’s needs to read 11 & 12th syllabus wise and 2004 old edition of science books.

Final Observation

  1. The Paper looks like easy but most of the candidates filled the pages what they know relevant to the answer so the mark of the answers in the hands of evaluator
  2. As I Mentioned earlier many people used Maths as scoring area without losing marks in theory
  3. Some of the new serious  Aspirants left around 20 marks , senior players managed with their writing skills
  4. Finally the paper was so good what others expected TNPSC improved in asking questions and deviated from the conventional area because, in this paper expansion of British rule is completely absent and given more space to Tamilnadu related area and most of the questions are unexpected and also in science TNPSC questions are analytical and we should write own there is no readymade answer.
  5. Those who completed the paper with enough valid points may get around 200 – 210 as Highest
